Literacy  - Snail Trail by Ruth Brown

We have been listening to the story ‘Snail Trail’ learning about all the different environments a snail visits. We have made and experienced sand trails, tunnels, forest leaves, slides and caves.

Mad about Minibeasts - Giles Andraea

Next half term we will be learning about the story ‘Mad about Minibeasts’, where we will learn about more minibeasts where they live and we will use our senses to explore them. We will also make a home for them to live in and keep them safe. 

We are learning about number, length and height and time.  

We have experienced a range of exciting number songs including ‘How many bees?’, ‘Five little speckled frogs’ and ‘I'm a little ladybird’. We have counted the bees in the hive using the correct counting gestures. We have measured worms and compared their lengths and we are now talking about time including the sequence of events.

Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) - We have been recognising ourselves in photographs and the mirror, recognising our friends in class and saying their name using our preferred communication style. We have also talked about adults we know in class and around school.

We are learning about the variety of world habitats and the animals that live in them. We explored the animals that matched them to their habitat and used our senses to explore habitats. This included ice for snowy conditions, warm water for tropical jungles, twigs and leaves in forests.

(Geography)  - Next half term we will be learning about which minibeasts and other animals live in Bradford. We will look for which minibeast we can find around Delius and explore their habitats. We will then be building them their own home to keep them safe and look for the minibeasts that like them the best.

This term we are talking about special ceremonies that take place when a baby is born. First we have looked at a humanist ceremony including name lighting, special poems, sand mixing and candle lighting.

We are now learning about and experiencing some of the traditions of the Islamic naming ceremony.

Expressive Arts and Design (Drama) We are learning about ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’.  We are learning skills around movement and role playing actions of insects using a sequence of movements to music from ‘A bug's life’ and ‘Flight of the bumblebee’. 

Expressive Arts and Design (Art) - We are joining the celebrations marking Bradford the City of Culture and through art next half term we will be exploring and naming the different landmarks see in Bradford. We will then be making marks onto images of the buildings to create our own artwork recreating the  landscape of Bradford.

Physical Development (PD)  We have been learning about creating movements using scarves and a simple sequence of movement to create a routine to the song ‘The Ugly Bug Ball’ 

Next half term we will be using the parachute to move in time to music, play simple parachute games and follow different actions and instructions as a class.
