Bradford Science & Media Museum Delius Takeover Day

The Science & Media Museum and Co-op Academy Delius have been working very closely together recently, to make it as inclusive and accessible for all in our Bradford community! Representatives from each of our 5 pathways attended a series of workshops today for The Science & Media Museums first ever SEN School Takeover Day!

The Science & Media Museum and Co-op Academy Delius have been working very closely together recently, to make it as inclusive and accessible for all in our Bradford community! Representatives from each of our 5 pathways attended a series of workshops today for The Science & Media Museums first ever SEN School Takeover Day!

Our first workshop was a Light Show, where we got to learn about lots of different ways we use light. The show literally started with a ’bang’ as we got to see what happens when you light a hydrogen balloon!

We then got our doctor scrubs on to explore using a camera to give the poor T-Rex an endoscopy – turns out he had eaten a little footballer! We loved learning that we could use light and a camera to see something we wouldn’t usually be able to see! We also had the opportunity to explore our reflection in the ‘Wonder Lab’, something we need light to be able to see

Our second workshop was a movement workshop with Corey Baker Dance , where we were exploring what it might be like to move & to dance in space. We worked on crunching our bodies up small & tight like a rock on the moon, then stretching our arms with our twinkling fingers like the stars! We made rings with our arms, like those on Saturn & Some of us even used scarves to float around like they had less gravity!

In the past we have attended some parts of the mainstream Takeover Days which were suitable, but this year we worked together to make the first ever SEN School Takeover Day, meaning everything was especially created for us to be able to engage with!

We are so proud of the work we are doing with The Science & Media Museum to make it even more inclusive and accessible, and can’t wait to visit again once it has reopened ready for Bradford to be the UK City of Culture 2025!
