The History of Delius

Co-op Academy Delius opened on April 26th 2010 and was formed of children from five other Bradford Special Schools. Originally known as Delius Special School, the school became an academy and joined the Co-op Academies Trust on 1st June 2019.

Governors wanted to name the school after a famous Bradfordion and decided upon the composer Frederick Theodore Albert Delius (29 January 1862 – 10 June 1934) who was born in Bradford. He later spent time in Florida and then Paris.

In America, a small memorial to Delius stands in Solano Grove, Jacksonville. A sculpture also exists (A Quatrefoil for Delius by Amber Hiscott) in Delius’s honor and was erected in Exchange Square, Bradford, and unveiled on 23 November 1993.
